THE MAGDEBURG WATER BRIDGE

The Magdeburg Water Bridge is a navigable aqueduct in Germany that connects the Elbe-Havel Canal to the Mittelland Canal, and allows ships to cross over the Elbe River. At 918 meters, it is the longest navigable aqueduct in the world. The water bridge joined the former East and West Germany, as part of the unification project.

PONTCYSYLLTE AQUEDUCT

The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is a navigable aqueduct that carries the Llangollen Canal over the valley of the River Dee in Wrexham County Borough in north east Wales. Completed in 1805, it is the longest and highest aqueduct in Great Britain, a Grade I Listed Building and a World Heritage Site.

BARTON SWING  AQUEDUCT

The Barton Swing Aqueduct is a moveable navigable aqueduct in Barton upon Irwell, Greater Manchester, England. The swinging action allows large vessels using the ship canal to pass underneath and smaller narrowboats to cross over the top. The aqueduct considered a major feat of Victorian civil engineering opened in 1894 and remains in regular use.

VELUWEMEER AQUEDUCT

The Aqueduct Veluwemeer is a navigable aqueduct over the N302 road near Harderwijk, in eastern Netherlands.

BRIARE AQUEDUCT

The Briare Aqueduct carries the Canal latéral à la Loire over the River Loire on its journey to the River Seine in France. It replaced a river-level crossing from the canal to meet the Briare Canal that was hazardous in times of flood. Between 1896 and 2003 it was the longest navigable aqueduct in the World until the opening of the Magdeburg Water Bridge.

HAVERUD AQUEDUCT

The Håverud Aqueduct locks were built between 1865-1868, and serves the Dalsland Canals in Sweden. The Canal begin just south at Köpmannebro and continues to Lake Östen. Along the way, there are 31 locks to allow canoes, yachts and other tourist vessels to slowly adapt to the 217 ft change in water level along the way.

AQUEDUCT  RINGVAART HAARLEMMERMEER

The Ringvaart  is a canal in the province of North Holland, the Netherlands. The Ringvaart (Dutch meaning “ring canal”) is a true circular canal surrounding the Haarlemmermeer polder and forms the boundary of the Haarlemmermeer municipality.

The Almond Aqueduct, also known as the Lin’s Mill Aqueduct, is a navigable aqueduct that carries the Union Canal over the River Almond in Scotland.
